About Us

The Africa Caribbean Heritage Alliance

The influence of the African continent on Caribbean culture and heritage is undeniable.  Through food, clothing, dance, music, art, language and ancestral spirituality, African culture (especially West African) still thrives in the Caribbean.

The Africa Caribbean Heritage Alliance (ACHA) was created to reunite Africa and the Caribbean in the areas of heritage, culture, economics, education, travel and tourism. Started by Okama Ekpe Brook, a Nigerian, who worked for the United Nations in different parts of the world and while based in Curacao and St. Maarten, discovered her people of African Descent and started the organization as a positive connecting gateway. Her background working in nation building, change management, ethnocultural research  and sustainability has uniquely given her a perspective on the relationship between Africa, the Caribbean and the Americas that can be strengthened and nurtured. ACHA was uniquely first registered in the hub of the Caribbean, St. Maarten.

In order to effectively and efficiently manage the interconnections between the regions, ACHA was registered in Nigeria in 2018 through the Corporate Affairs Registry and continues operations and programs based out of Abuja Federal Capital Territory. The Nigeria program has benefited from strategic partnerships and sponsorships of several donors, organizations and individuals. Click here to read more.

With her relocation in 2021 back to Alberta, Canada, the need for a Canada establishment was founded. ACHA Canada was registered in 2023 through the Alberta Societies Act. An expanded regional program is under development for Jamaica and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States.
