ACHA awards outstanding volunteers at IVD 2025

The ACHA Canada 🇨🇦 International Volunteer Day celebration was a truly heartwarming event. Held on December 5, 2025, at the ACHA office in Edmonton City Centre, the gathering was dedicated to recognizing the invaluable contributions of ACHA volunteers. A total of 11 awards were presented to outstanding individuals and organizations whose service continues to make a meaningful impact in the community. The event featured a rich lineup of activities, including live music by the Earth Force Band, an Indigenous song performance by Singing Horse Wholeness & Healing’s Howard Mustus Jr., a vibrant vendor market, African and Caribbean cuisine, ornament-making activities, and a live interview with CBC Radio. Keynote speakers and special guests included Miss Purple Media Official, Okama Ekpe, Effiong Omini, Aisha Yilkur Barde, Ogheneovo Ese, Honourable Salma Lakhani, Wood Buffalo Councilwoman Funky Banjoko, ACHA CEO Okama Ekpe Brooks, Action for Healthy Communities’ Pravatika Rai, University of Alberta Black Students’ Association Vice President Akunna Izugbokwe, and MLA David Shepherd. The event was also a fundraiser for Hurricane Melissa. People have the option of sending their donations to info@afrocarribeanalliance.org or they can donate from the ACHA website. The celebration served as a powerful reminder that doing good always feels great and that every contribution truly matters.
